Welcome to Spike's Answers to Frequently Asked Questions.
How much space will my dog have to run around in? - Spike’s hotel has been specifically designed to keep dogs healthy and safe while you are away -- space to play, fresh air, and a securely enclosed backyard. Inside we have a ventilation system (that includes A/C) designed to meet veterinarian standards. Additionally, we have windows for proper circulation and maximum fresh air.
We have both indoor and outdoor play areas. Our newly expanded outdoors includes a giant doghouse! We believe in lots of fresh air and exercise. Fresh air is absolutely necessary in keeping down risk of disease and keeping our guests happy!
Is my dog supervised at all times? - Yes, your pet is supervised both inside and outside at all times. There will be many times throughout their stay that they will be getting belly rubs, a ball toss or a snuggle. We also have a 24/7 on-site manager, who lives in the apartment above the hotel, so even in the middle of the night there is someone on site to handle an emergency should one occur. We are one of the only dog hotels in the area that make this claim!
What if my dog becomes ill? - At check-in you will provide emergency contact information so we can contact the person you have designated. Additionally, Spikes is affiliated with Dr. Cidon and PetVets Animal Hospital located in Oak Park.
What does In-Home Care provide? - In-home care provides care for all your critters when you are unable to be at home. Spikes’ will come to your home to walk, feed, administer medicine and play with your dog, cat or other critters. Although it may seem like dogs are our main business, we take care of many cats, birds, Guinea Pigs, hamsters and rodents as well. We schedule our visits according to your needs and those of your pets. We will visit your pet once, twice or three times a day for 20-minutes (though we can spend more time if requested). Our clients may depend on us for their pet's care as well their home's security. We will bring in your mail / newspapers, turn lights on and off and water plants if needed. We are bonded and insured! We visit homes in River Forest, Oak Park and Forest Park.
If interested in In-home care, we will schedule a meeting with you and your pets at your home to go over all instructions and specific needs in detail.
May I bring along my dog’s bed, toys and bones? - Yes, clean, non-allergenic plush pile is recommended for their favorite bed, blanket and pillow or even a favorite towel. Nylabones and Kongs recomended. For your dog's safety, no squeeker, torn or broken toys are allowed. Spikes reserves the right to reject bedding or toys that we feel are unsafe.
